Castillo is pushing the poll on his Facebook page.

Interesting. (0.00 / 0)
I thought he was doing well because the poll was on Proviso Probe.

Castillo has friends in Proviso (0.00 / 0)
but he's done a great job organizing online.

He's interested in state senate in 2012 if he doesn't get the nod for ltgov. Castillo vs. Cronin?

[ Parent ]
Make that Castillo vs. Pankau. (0.00 / 0)
I'm pretty sure TC lives in the same district as me, district 23.

"In order for somebody to win an important, major fight 100 years hence, a lot of other people have got to be willing -- for the sheer fun and joy of it -- to go right ahead and fight, knowing you're going to lose." -- I.F. Stone

I think positively of Castillo, but does anyone think he's ready... (0.00 / 0)
to be Governor?  Hynes said he doesn't want it.

The Party's really got to choose someone who could BE Governor (especially if we intend to go after the lack of qualifications of the R Lt. Gov. choice), has NO questions about him/her, wants the job of Lt. Gov., and, to a lesser degree, works well with Quinn.

That would disqualify a lot of people here.

Still, progressives uniting behind a candidate acceptable to most of us would be good before the State Central Committee meets.  And lobbying the 9th, 10th, 7th, etc. Committeemen ASAP would be good.

[ Parent ]
progressives and Machine are on the same page? (0.00 / 0)
Both side mostly want to win.

Who on the list is ready to step in as governor?

[ Parent ]
I voted already, I'm just pointing out that the sample needs... (0.00 / 0)
to be bigger, and then, some consensus needs to be reached among progressives, if we think we have any chance to affect the outcome at the DSSC.

[ Parent ]
Zero sum (3.00 / 1)
So Madigan needs to pick someone who could be governor.  The primary qualification of someone who could be governor is someone who can stand up to Madigan when needs be.  Therefore, Madigan is unlikely to pick someone who really could be governor.

Which means Castillo is a good bet since Madigan wouldn't see him as a threat.

[ Parent ]
Madigan's not the only chooser, and... (0.00 / 0)
to let him be is the non-progressive choice.

[ Parent ]
So, being anti-Madigan is the ONLY choosing point? (0.00 / 0)
If so, I can think of many 'better' choices.

[ Parent ]
No (0.00 / 0)
I wasn't suggesting someone "anti-Madigan" -- just someone who can stand up to him.  Which are different things entirely.

And the argument was a bit of snark: sorry that wasn't clear.

I get the sense that (0.00 / 0)
Most of the people participating in the poll are from the Chicago area and few are African-Americans.

[ Parent ]
I'm surprised (0.00 / 0)
Glen Poshard is so high on the list.  Which might refute the Chicago-area theory, since I don't get the sense that he was ever very popular in Chicago.

[ Parent ]
I suspect (4.00 / 1)
He's the only Southern Illinois politician that Castillo's suburban supporters have heard of.  This poll is pretty useless after being linked on Castillo's page.

[ Parent ]
Yes it is pretty useless. (0.00 / 0)
However it has use as a general ballpark narrowing. We know we can discount the apparent success of Castillo. Not entirely. But he probably still would be in the top 15.

Jeff Wegerson

Why do you say that? (0.00 / 0)
It could be that poll participants realize that were the Democrats to add a fourth African-American to the statewide ticket (say by choosing Rep. Turner to replace Cohen), the ticket would be quite imbalanced.

The problem with getting downstate candidates promoted in this poll is that many of the prospects are not as well known as those from Chicago, because they have generally held less prominent offices.  Add to that the fact that a majority of the Democratic vote lies within Cook County and it is hardly a shock that most of the Downstate options are doing rather poorly in this poll.

Perhaps if each of the now nearly 40 names listed included a brief description as to who they are and what they have done, some of the Downstate prospects might be doing better in this poll.
