Is does appear that Denny Hastert's son is thinking of making a serious bid the 14th Congressional District.

Given the penchant in Illinois for electing political dynasties this could spell trouble for Foster.

The district still has a Republican lean to it and it makes sense for a serious challenge before redistricting when it could be carved to be more Democratic friendly.

What Lauzen got to say about this? (0.00 / 0)
I can't imagine that after toiling in the Illinois Senate for years, Chris Lauzen is happy with the idea of standing in line behind both Oberweis and Ethan Hastert.

Eldest son is a lobbyist (0.00 / 0)
and it would keep it all cosy, all in the family again.

He's a lobbyist for Google, Josh Hastert (0.00 / 0)
So he's not quite the evil pharma lobbyist like we'd like to imagine. One of his biggest achievements there is going to bat against the big telecom companies in over net neutrality. Nothing wrong with that.

Lauzen never had the support of the Republican Party (0.00 / 0)
As much as we all rail against nepotism in Illinois politics it seems that we can't resist voting for a familiar name.  I don't know anything about Ethan Hastert except that he is a lawyer and I don't think many people in the district do either but on name recognition alone he would have a very good start.

Ethan should be easy to beat. (0.00 / 0)
Just run a few commericals and newspaper ads showing Ethan's face with Todd Stroger's.  In this case, a picture will be worth more than a thousand words.

Would that be something Foster would do? (4.00 / 2)
I just can't see that being a tactic for Foster.

Foster's campaign doesn't have to do it (4.00 / 1)
It could be the DCCC or a 527.

[ Parent ]
why do you think Todd Stroger (0.00 / 0)
resonates in Kane County and DeKalb?

[ Parent ]
Still think wouldn't work (0.00 / 0)
I doubt that trying to tie a Republican to a Democrat makes sense for a Democrat to use anyway.

I also agree probably would not resonate but just might back fire to remind them that corrupt Cook County has the same part as Foster.

I think Democratic corruption is going to be a big play in the next elections and it would be playing with fire to have a Democratic candidate remind people of anything close to corruption.

Foster will want to stay clear of Cook County politics as much as possible.

Because Randall thinks everybody has his obsessions. n/t (0.00 / 0)

Not serious (0.00 / 0)
Randall's just extrapolating from the 5th CD experience -- I doubt even he thinks it will work in Kane Co.

That said, my guess is that Ethan Hastert will have an uphill battle, as I don't think Foster has made enemies or made significant errors of judgment -- and its very hard to unseat a sitting congressman.
