(And now for something completely different... Candidates welcome here at PSB! - promoted by michael in chicago)

Hi everyone, my name is Dan Kotowski, and I am the State Senator in the 33rd District that consists of parts of Park Ridge, Des Plaines, Mount Prospect, Elk Grove Village, Arlington Heights, Chicago and Niles. I am proud to serve this great district and to work toward providing solutions and achieving results for the people of my community and beyond.

I worked hard in my campaign and I was helped by fellow bloggers bored now and Yoda with posts like this one here and here. I was also helped by the efforts of the Northside DFA group and their ground efforts.

Dan Kotowski :: Solutions, Results, Progress for the 33rd District
I walked precincts, knocking on doors across the district, many of them more than once.  Family, friends and supporters joined me in this great adventure and last November I was the first Democrat elected to represent the 33rd District since 1860.  I am about to finish my first year of a two-year term.

On Monday, October 29 I filed for the upcoming primary elections with 3250 signatures from nearly 60 volunteers collecting in their own neighborhoods, train stations, and local shopping centers.  I reached this goal through a strong team of supporters and a personal ground game. I was able to speak with voters from nearly every corner of the district.  I heard from people who were concerned about their property taxes, education, soaring health care costs and the dissatisfaction with the lack of progress in Springfield.

I understand these concerns.  I come from a background of finding creative ways to solve problems despite the obstacles. That is why I decided to run for State Senate and why I am running for re-election.  Because it is not just about connecting with voters at the door or at a train station, it is about providing them with results, in the district and in Springfield.

Ten months.  That's how long I have been a State Senator.  In that short span of time I have been the chief sponsor of 18 bills in the Senate, nine of them are now law in the State of Illinois.  I have been a sponsor of another 86 bills and 51 of them are now law.  I am proud of these accomplishments and I hope to be able to share with you these results and some of my goals in future posts.

Wow, a linky to my old diary (0.00 / 0)
How fun yet unexpected to have a dairy from Dan Kotowski, who was one of our NDFA adopted candidates last cycle, here on PSB and with a link to one of my old diaries none the less!

I have a google alert on Dan, and it is fabulous seeing him out there constantly fighting the good fight, in particular on one of the issues he is most passionate about -- reducing gun violence.  But in this age of politicians who seem to parse every word, what I appreciate most about Dan are the time he really hits the nail on the head with something so obvious, but something that most people don't take the time to speak out on.  My favorite was when he co-sponored a bill to say that legislators in Springfield should be given time to READ bills prior to signing them.  Tee hee!  Imagine that!

Thanks, Dan, for posting.

Also, in an early talk that I heard you give, you mentioned that one of your interests was in trying to make the Illinois budget be presented in a more easy-to-read format, so it would be easier for legislators, and interested constituents, to track what the planned expenses and revenues really were.  Have you been able to address that at all?

I wanted to see if I could include a link to that bill I mentioned in my other comment, so I googled Dan's name, and was pretty shocked by the results.  It was dominated by crazy pro gun people ripping on Dan in a pretty fierce way.  Yikes.  So sorry Dan that those people have found such a big megaphone for their disturbing view points, and thank you doubly for being so strong on this issue.

Yay, go Dan! (0.00 / 0)
I'm happy to see you here, Senator! And I'm looking forward to helping out on your campaign.
